Ms. Jess

I am originally from North Carolina, USA where I received a degree in Physics Education and Mathematics from Appalachian State University. When my husband and I moved to Grand Cayman in 2005 I worked as a Naturalist for the Ambassadors of the Environment where I led locals and tourists on educational trips in nature. It was while working here I realized my passion was educating our youngest learners and decided to make the switch to working in an early childhood center. In 2010 I joined Montessori del Sol and received a certificate in Montessori Fundamentals from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies. When I’m not at school, I fill my time with caring for my two young sons, playing at the beach, yoga, reading and exploring the world.

Originally haling from Victoria BC, Canada, we’ve made Cayman our permanent home since the late 90’s. Prior to becoming an early childhood practitioner my focus was teaching yoga for over 10 years. I trained at the Nosara Yoga Institute of Costa Rica and received my 500 hour Interdisciplinary Yoga accreditation. My teaching ranged to a variety of clientele including prenatal, restorative, children, and meditation classes. Shortly after the birth of our son (my muse!) I began fusing my previous yoga experience with a new pursuit of early childhood education. I share a passion for traveling with my family where we travel far and wide to enhance our world view. My goal is taking these expereinces to bring a unique perspective to the classroom through the Montessori discipline. I joined the Montessori Del Sol team in 2012 as a Casa Assistant. I trained at the AMI Institute of San Diego to receive my Assistant’s certification with Silvia Dubovoy. I have worked at Montessori Del Sol in both the Casa and Toddler environments and enjoy both age groups immensely. I am thrilled to be joining the Toddler Team and can’t wait to see what the children teach us all this year.

¡Hola! I am originally from Pinar del Rio, Cuba and while earning a Bachelor Degree in Socio-cultural Studies from Havana University, I completed a Teaching Certificate Program to become a teacher of Spanish as a Second Language at the same university. As a student, I gained valuable experience volunteering in a nursery school and actively participating in the development of community projects by designing and facilitating learning activities for children and youth with a focus on environmental education that involved conservation and preservation of endemic species in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Sierra del Rosario. Prior to moving to Cayman, I worked as a Teacher of Spanish as a Second Language at Havana University and had the privilege to teach students from different nationalities and ages. When I moved to Cayman in 2012, I decided to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education. Shortly after, I completed my Montessori Early Childhood Diploma from the North American Montessori Center and a continuing education course in Supporting Children with Special Needs from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, listening to music, going to the beach, scuba diving, reading and traveling. I love Art in all its manifestations!
